The Bangladeshi diaspora in the United States celebrated the success of Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) at the 39th annual convention of the Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA), held in Atlanta from August 29 to 31, 2025.
There are likely over 1 million Bangladeshis living in the United States, though official 2025 numbers are not yet available, with the most recent estimates placing the population at approximately 350,000 in 2023, and recent growth trends suggesting the number has significantly increased since then.
The U.S. Census Bureau reported a Bangladeshi-born population of approximately 351,955 in 2023.
“The Bangladeshi-American community is a rapidly growing population, and it is likely that the 2025 figure will be significantly higher than the 2023 estimates due to ongoing immigration,” says a report.
FOBANA is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1987 to celebrate and promote Bangladeshi culture in North America. It is known for organising annual conventions, bringing together the Bangladeshi diaspora for cultural performances, community events, business networking, and consular services.
It is a non-discriminatory, non-political, and non-profit 501(c)(3) organisation focused on community and cultural development. FOBANA conventions serve as a platform to celebrate Bangladeshi culture, traditions, and heritage through performances, food, and artisan markets.
It fosters community connections, provides networking opportunities for businesses and youth, and offers seminars on various topics like women's empowerment and investment. An important feature is the consular services for the Bangladeshi community.
